May 29, 2010 STEVE PAINE WINS ON FALLEN FRIENDS AND HEROES NIGHT AT CANANDAIGUA SPEEDWAY By Amanda Hirko PR Coordinator Canandaigua, NY-Fallen friends and heroes were memorialized this holiday weekend at Canandaigua Speedway during the Corvettes by Turner Land of Legends Friends and Heroes Memorial Night. To add to the excitement at the track drivers were offered an extra bonus. Along with the chance to earn double points drivers were given a chance to win some extra cash. Drivers took to track in a 4-lap 'Dash for Cash' on Saturday night. Fans were encouraged to participate in the event by donating money to a specific event. 100% of all donations to the dash were given back to the drivers as part of their prize money. In addition to giving thanks to their favorite drivers fans were given the opportunity to memorialize someone special with a PA announcement. This concept was not only created by track management but Cory Reed, Joe Skotnicki, and Jeff Hachmann were the first to make personal donations to the overall dash money fund in honor of all the fallen track officials and drivers. "This was just another way we could give back to the sport we love," said DIRTcar Northeast's Cory Reed. This was extra special for Jeff Hachmann who honored his father, a longtime employee and supporter of Upstate NY DIRTcar racing, who was lost just over two years ago C Andy Fisk won the Stock Car 'Dash for Cash' in memory of Ron Lawson Jr. and Shane Palmer. The 'Big Block Dash for Cash' in memory of long time media supporter of the speedway, Don Post was won by Steve Paine. Track officials ran the 'Sportsman Dash for Cash' in memory of Fred Taney which was won by Rob Bussey. Track excitement continued throughout the night when the DIRTcar big block Modified took to the track for their 35 lap feature event. Danny Johnson was burning up the track after taking the lead on lap 14. Johnson was looking like a sure winner until the motor blew inside the Mike Payne owned Bicknell built chassis on the final lap, allowing Steve Paine to slip by and pickup his second checkered flag of the season at the "Land of Legends." Second was Rob Bellinger followed by Charlie Donk, Justin Haers and Vince Vitale. Daryl Hilkert won the first of two DIRTcar Sportsman 25 lap feature events. Justin Henderson was the winner of a rescheduled event from Saturday, May 15. Hilkert took the lead on lap two from Kane Bristol and beat Rob Bussey to the finish line. Third went to Dan Wiesner followed by Paul Guererri and Eric Giguere. In the rescheduled event, Henderson took the lead on lap 19 and settled in for the remainder of the race. Second was Eric Giguere followed by Mark Chiddy, Nick Guererri and Justin Wright. In the 20 lap DIRTcar Stock car feature, Frank "Bubba" Burnell won for the third time in 2010 at Canandaigua Speedway. Second was Nate Peckham followed by Andy Fisk in third. Fourth was Chris Fisher and John Zimmerman was fifth. The Factory Stock/Pure Stock 15 lap feature found another familiar name in victory lane with Alex Morris winning his third of the season. Second was Mike Minutolo Jr. Third was Ross Lurcock while Don Drave was fourth and Ron Bush was fifth. May 22, 2010 TIM CURRIER GETS FIRST WIN, "THE HURRICANE" WINS HOLDOVER RACE; BIG MEMORIAL WEEKEND EVENT SCHEDULED WITH THREE WAYS TO SAVE By Dave Roberts, DIRTcar Northeast PR CANANDAIGUA, NY_ It was an exciting night at Canandaigua Speedway last Saturday night with a mixture of youth and experience making its presence known with Tim Currier winning his first career DIRTcar big block Modified feature event. Steve Paine, a nine time DIRTcar Modified track champion at the Canandaigua Speedway, took the holdover 35 lap DIRTcar Modified main that kicked off the night. Currier, in just his first full season in a DIRTcar Modified dominated the 35 lap feature. The Auburn, NY youngster took the lead on lap five and withstood a number of caution periods throughout the remainder of the event to score the biggest night of his young career. After checking out to a six second lead, the caution flew and the field was back together with Dave Rauscher and Vince Vitale right behind. As Currier was strong on restarts, he maintained his lead and won by just over second after the final two-lap dash. Second was Rauscher followed by Vitale. Charlie Donk, a winner in week two, was fourth followed by Steve Paine who rose back to fifth after a right-rear flat earlier in the race. In the 35 lap DIRTcar Modified main rescheduled from May 15th, "The Hurricane" Steve Paine took his first win of the season, beating "The Doctor" Danny Johnson to the finish line. Paine led much of the feature and looked dominant throughout, but a lap 26 caution period allowed Johnson to move right on Paine's bumper. After a great restart Paine was able to hold off Johnson for the remaining 9 laps. Brian Swarthout finished third and rounding out the top five was Rob Bellinger and Dave Allen. Justin Wright is proving that he's one of the biggest stars in the DIRTcar Northeast future, winning the 25 lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature. It was his third win of the 2010 season and he's done it at three different tracks, including Cayuga County Fair Speedway last weekend. Nick Guererri was second, Kevin Ridley third, Paul Guererri was fourth and Karl Comfort was fifth. The 20 lap DIRTcar Stock Car main had similarities from the previous week. Frank "Bubba" Burnell was in Victory Lane again, minus the chicken, as he scored back-to-back wins at Canandaigua Speedway. Burnell was quick after taking the lead from Chris Fisher near the halfway point and never looked back. Second was Fisher followed by Derrick Excell, Mike Welch and Russ Marsden. Factory Stock/Pure Stock put on another great show as Alex Morris returned to victory lane for his second win of the 2010 season. After winning on opening night, the defending track champion had been shut out before again marching to victory last Saturday night. Second was Ross Lurcock followed by Roger Bush, Dale Bush and Chris Gingerich. LAND OF LEGENDS NOTES: With rain all around the Canandaigua Speedway region, track officials did a magnificent job in getting the entire program done in just a little more than two-and-a-half hours…Many fans took the opportunity to use "Curfew Cash" which returns again this week…The pre-race autograph session with Justin Henderson and Mike Rasbeck was again a big hit with the race fans as both drivers put their cars on display giving fans the chance for photos. This Saturday night, DIRTcar stars Eldon Payne Jr. and Mike Welch will be signing autograph from 5:30 to 6:00 at the DIRTcar apparel trailer. This addition to the program is FREE and will take place EVERY Saturday night for all race fans. As officials at Canandaigua Speedway continue to give back to the fans, the "Curfew Cash" program will continue into this Saturday's racing program at Canandaigua Speedway. A $2 discount will be issued for an adult admission by presenting your May 15th ticket stub at the main ticket booth. Double DIRTcar Sportsman features are also on the card along with the DIRTcar Stock Cars and the Factory Stocks/Pure Stocks in a double point's night that should make for some terrific side-by-side action. Fans are encouraged to participate in the event by donating money to a specific event. 100% of all donations will be given back to the drivers as part of their prize money. In addition you will have the opportunity to memorialize someone special with a PA announcement. It's a great way to honor someone special and give your thanks to the drivers. ANDY FISK , JUSTIN HENDERSON AND BRIAN LYON ALSO WIN FEATURE EVENTS By Dave Roberts, DIRTcar Northeast PR CANANDAIGUA , NY_ On a night where everything seemed to go in the right direction, Charlie Donk of Macedon, NY made an electrifying fourth turn pass on the final lap to win his first DIRTcar big block Modified feature event at Canandaigua Speedway since June 16, 2007 last Saturday night at the Ontario County Fairgrounds. Andy Fisk of Williamson, NY won the opening event of the seven race Parts Plus DIRTcar Stock Car Series presented by Wix Filters. Justin Henderson won his fourth career feature at Canandaigua and Brian Lyon was the winner in the Factory Stock feature, It seemed liked a near perfect night. Both the DIRTcar Modified and DIRTcar Stock Car features were determined on the final lap of their events. The track surface, which had issues on opening night two weeks ago, was fast from the first drop of the green and a good crowd watched one of the better racing programs on the spacious half-mile in a long time. Residents from Canandaigua, Sodus and Palmyra enjoyed hometown heroes night and most everyone leaving the facility realized that they had seen a fantastic night of racing. For Charlie Donk, winning last Saturday's feature event still gave him plenty of confidence. "I had a two wins a couple of years ago," said Donk in a victory lane interview. "It was really good to get one early in the season. It's been a while. I needed this one. Donk's pass of Derek Podsiadlo on the final turn of the scheduled 35 lap main had the fans on their feet as the two came across the finish line. Podsiadlo took the lead after Rob Bellinger went into the back straight wall, courtesy of a right rear flat tire, on the final lap. Podsiadlo seemingly had a lead that would take him to the checkered flag , but it was Donk who wouldn't give up as he used the outside lane from turn three to the checkered flag to take home the victory. Eldon Payne started on the outside pole and led the first nine laps before Bellinger would take over the top spot. Defending Canandaigua Speedway DIRTcar Modified champion Matt Sheppard was a late entry into the field and had to start last in 18th position. Sheppard would move into second on lap 11 and set his sights on Bellinger. By lap 30, Sheppard was right behind Bellinger and putting the pressure. On lap 32, Sheppard's night was over. The Waterloo, NY racing star came to a stop outside turn four with mechanical difficulties. Bellinger would hold onto the lead until the final lap when Donk made his "heroic" pass. Podsialdo, Chad Homan, Vince Vitale and Bellinger rounded out the top five. Sixth was Mike O'Brien while pole sitter Tim Currier was seventh. Eighth was Sheppard followed by Paul Habeck and Eldon Payne Jr. Heat race winners were Tim Currier, Eldon Payne Jr and Charlie Donk. In the 25 lap Parts Plus DIRTcar Stock Car presented by Wix Filters feature, Andy Fisk also made a last lap pass to win his second feature event of the season and second in a row. Fisk entered the final lap of the race in third place. The real excitement of the race came when then leader Mike Rasbeck, Frank Burnell and Fisk entered turn three. Using the outside lane, Fisk got by Burnell and out dueled Rasback down the front stretch for the victory. Ransack had led the entire distance of the race up to the point when Fisk had made his move. On opening night two weeks ago, Rasbeck had also led much of the race only to finish second. Fisk has started the 2010 season Canandaigua Speedway DIRTcar Stock Car schedule with a pair of wins but has certainly had to work hard to win both events. Burnell held on for third followed by Mike Welch in fourth and Nate Peckham, who had to come from the back of the pack after he ducked into the pits to fix a flat tire on lap 19. Rounding out the top ten was Chris Fisher, John Zimmerman, Jack Terrell, Jason Whipple and Derrick Excell. Heat races were won by Nate Peckham and Mike Rasbeck. In the 25 lap DIRTcar Sportsman main, Justin Henderson took the lead on lap 13 and held off Steve Gray at the finish to win. Henderson had to endure a pair of caution periods after he took the lead with Gray behind him. Henderson was especially strong off the restarts and that allowed him to keep the tough running Gray behind him at the finish line. While Gray took home the runner-up position, Paul Guererri, Nick Guererri and Randy McCullough rounded out the top five. Loren Lincoln, opening night winner Eric Giguere, Greg Cool, Daryl Hilkert and Dan Wiesner completed the top ten. Justin Wright started on the pole position and held the lead until Henderson took over. Wright went to the pits and never returned. Heat race winners were Nick Guererri, Steve Gray and Justin Wright. Brian Lyon took the victory in the 15 laps Factory Stock Feature. Lyon had a lot of fan support as he defeated Alex Morris, defending Canandaigua Speedway champion and 2010 opening night winner. Third was Chris Gingerich. Fourth and fifth, respectively were Roger Bush and Don Drave. Dale Bush, Eric Chapman, Mike Minutolo and Dave Bush rounded out the field . The heat race winner was Alex Morris. This week, the Dart Dirt BRP Late Model Black Rock/Canandaigua Challenge Series makes it's first of three scheduled 2010 appearances at the "Land of Legends". The DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar Stock Cars. The FACTORY STOCKS will have the night off. It's also Hometown Heroes Night with residents of Middlesex, Dundee and Rochester allowed into the track free of admission. Proper ID is required. Adult Admission is just $12. Senior Citizens $10. Students 10-18 and Active Military is $5. Children 9 and under are always free. Race time is 7pm. Pit gates open at 4pm. Grandstands at 5pm. Fans...Don't forget.
